Independence Birthdays

What a week! My little family was able to escape work and chores for a few days and have some much needed fun! Joe's family was having their annual swim party on Saturday and their annual firework party on Tuesday, in Cache Valley. So we decided instead of going home in between, we would go to Bear Lake. It was a great place to celebrate four birthdays, mine, Josie's, Todd's, and this countries!

Here's our little man trying out the sand while we get things set up.

We didn't even wait for swimsuits we were so excited to start playing. Josie and Todd got to open one present each when we first got there. Swim floats and sand castle toys. The car was for Todd but Josie commandeered it. Todd didn't mind.

Josie says her favorite part of the whole trip was building sandcastles with her dad!

My favorite part was soaking in the sun and just doing nothing with my girl!

Found Josie a butterfly to hold. She loves them, the squint is from the sun not the butterfly.

Cooling off with (expensive!) snow cones

Later in the afternoon the grandparents showed up! Both my parents and Joe's came to spend the night with us. It was so great having them up there, especially for the birthday celebration.

This is my dad with Todd. I know there are alot of these pictures but I couldn't resist!
I love these moments and I bet you can't help but smile when you see that toothy grin!
Such a little boy.

Josie's cousin Isabel came up with my parents. She is just 2-3 weeks younger than Josie and they love each other (most of the time)

And the last of our party, Kayla, Joe's younger sister.

After dinner that evening we gathered for presents. So did the seagulls.

Since Todd decided to not join us on the fourth last year, and instead come at 1:30am on the fifth,
this is technically his first 4th of July.
It is my 26th and Josie's 4th, 4th of July!

And after a few rousing games of horseshoes while the kids played at the park, we had birthday cake!

Josie thought her spankings from Grandpa Rand were great fun.

The next day we had some more fun. While Todd took a nap we all played mini golf.
None of us did well.

Before heading back to Cache Valley we all hit the pool. It was very nice with a 3-6' deep pool, kiddie pool, hot tub and even had a mini waterslide the girls could do.

The birthday trio!

After some lunch and raspberry shakes we headed back to my parents to get ready for the firework party. My poor kids were so exhausted!

Let the fireworks begin!
Okay, we were so tired we didn't stay for the fireworks, we really didn't want to get stuck in traffic and our kids were desperate for a bed. So we stayed for dinner and had some fun before leaving.

The next day it was officially the Fourth of July! We didn't do any birthday celebrating since we had taken care of that at the Lake but we still had fun. Joe and I went on a morning 4-wheeler ride then joined his family at the Hyrum City Parade.

Joe's brother Kevin is by the light post, then new sister-in-law Lindsey Hawkes #2, brother Dave, and sister Kayla. Below is Joe, sister-in-law Natalie, brother Jason, and Josie and Todd.

Josie really wanted the candy but was too shy to go get any.
A sweet boy next to her kept sharing though.

That evening we finally headed home! Josie was disappointed she didn't get to do the fireworks at the party so we promised her we would do some when we got home. She did not forget!
Todd was the smart one, he went to bed.

It was a fantastic holiday! I felt bad we didn't do anything special on the 5th, Todd's actual birthday, but not bad enough to feel guilty! We had celebrated enough!

I love my family, and I love this country!
Happy Birthday Josie, Todd, and the USA
