So we had an interesting day.
Apparently a few teenagers thought they would have some fun and left acid bombs around the
neighborhood. One at the high school on the corner, one at the condos across the street, one at the church at the end of the road and one at the doorstep of our second front door!
I heard what I thought was a gun go off around 8:30am and after looking out the windows disregarded it for construction or something. Well not long after that I find out the high school is in lockdown
because a bomb went off.
I did not make any connections. I figured the high school explosion was from the science lab.
Until, 10:30am when I get a knock on my door and its a whole squad of policemen. They are taping off my house with caution tape and surrounding the premises. The policeman asks me if I was aware there was a "suspicious package" at my doorstep. I must have looked pretty dumbfounded cause he asked me to come with him and he showed it to me (from about 15 feet away). It just looked like a piece of garbage. He then tells me about the acid bombs. We weren't allowed to go outside or into the part of the house by that door for about 2 hours while they searched for more bombs. Meanwhile reporters wouldn't quit ringing my bell. My interview actually aired on the evening news! I don't remember what channel it was.
Anyway they caught the two kids responsible. One is male, 18 and will be charged with at least one felony, the other, female, will probably get off with probation. I doubt they think it was worth it.
Luckily no one was hurt (the acid can still burn you up to about 10 hours after the bomb goes off!) and my house was undamaged.
Reporters recording my house
This is all that was left of the police after they untaped my house and moved on.
They had the entire block shutdown for hours.
Though they did let my visiting teachers through!
This is what's left of the acid after all the treatment and cleaning the bomb squad and fire departments did. They shampooed my whole driveway, I wanted to ask them to power wash my house too.
As I said a very interesting day! The kids loved seeing all the fire trucks and cop cars!
I am just grateful I didn't let the kids out to play this morning so that they weren't the ones to find it.
