Halloween 2011 Party #1 with Cinderella

The bountiful Rec Center does a huge halloween party every year, this year Josie went as Cinderella! She was beautiful. (and it was easy because we already had everything! Thank you Grandma Leslie!)

Josie got to do so many fun things, rock climb with bats, fish for gold, ring tosses, mini golf, trick-or-treat with pirates, she even got to go on a canoe ride through the swampy forest!

And there were mermaids!

I thought Todd would just go to sleep like he normally does

in the pack, but I guess there were way to many interesting things to see!

Fall Colors

We don't have church until 1 so we decided to go see the colors in the canyon before church one day. Bountiful was just starting to change so there wasn't alot of reds yet, but it was beautiful!

Josie and I gathered some leaves to try and make a wreath for our front door. It didn't turn out so good, but we had fun anyway!

Crazy Circus

We took the family to the circus! I had never been to a circus (that i can remember), and the only one Joe has been to the trapeze artist fell and died, so we weren't quite sure how everyone would like it.

Well, we LOVED it! The clowns were even Josie's favorite part. We saw some amazing talent, unfortunately we have no pictures because they said no cameras allowed. (I think we were the only ones who heard that rule, there were cameras everywhere!)

We had all been very sick at this time too, so by intermission we were all so tired, but it really was worth staying. I think Todd could have done without it, it was too loud for him. He tried to get us to leave early by spitting up all over me, but that didn't work. I was going to get my money's worth!

LAGOON! Most fun of the year

We went to Lagoon on Saturday Sept. 17 and had soooo much fun we bounced back the next Saturday.

The Merry-go-round was our first ride. Me on the rooster, Kayla on the Zebra, and Josie on the Pony.

The first day Joe, Todd, Josie, me, and Kayla (joe's sister) went as soon as it opened and stayed until about 3pm. It started to rain so we went home for naps. About 6pm Josie and I returned to the park, just the two of us. It was perfect, the rain had cleared everyone out! Joe had taken Kayla home earlier, so he and Todd had a boys night watching football and eating stew.

I have never had so much fun in my life, Josie loved everything and had a look of pure joy all night. It was a very special day, I'll never forget it!

The next Saturday the four of us were there at opening time, and were later joined by my sister Robin. This time Joe took both kids home for lunch and naps, so Robin and I got to stay and do some 'big kid' rides.

This was the only ride Josie and I didn't get to do our first visit, so it was our first ride the next week. We picked that plane for the name!

Josie absolutely loves rollercoaster so I had to get some video of her. You'll have to forgive the chest shots, I was hiding the camera!

Timpanogos Cave

Saturday we hiked to Timpanogos Cave. It was a great (exhausting) little family adventure.

To get to the cave you have to hike a 1 1/2 mile vertical trail. By the time you reach the entrance you've climbed over 1000 feet in elevation. It wasn't Josie's ideal Saturday!

This rattler was scaring all the hikers, he was only about two feet off the trail. I guess a few years ago when Joe killed a rattler with a stick and leatherman, it took the fear of rattlesnakes out of him. Cause while everyone else was skirting around it as quickly as possible Joe was getting up close for pictures!

We loved the cave. Josie just wanted to see bats and was disappointed when she didn't.

For the hike down, Joe and I traded. He had Todd and little Miss Josie rode my shoulders the whole way.

We made it there and back, no harm done! As much as we all enjoyed the day I think it will be years before we do it again - with kids at least!

It's off to the FAIR

We hit up the Davis County Fair the other day with Rem & Lea. It was so much fun, Josie and Isabel had a blast!

They rode Ponies, spaceships, rollercoasters, and boats!

Our other favorites were the rattlesnake show, diving dogs, exotic creatures (Josie loves snakes), and of course the cotton candy!

As for Todd and Tommy, they just hung out.

Camping in the Uintas

My family goes camping to the Uintas almost every year.

This year we went up on Joe and my niece Sarah's birthday. It was really great to get some outdoors time.

Todd is only 1 month old so I worried about him at night. He actually slept better than any of the other kids that first night, but I had him so bundled I was up all night worried about suffocating him. He shared a sleeping bag with me, and Joe and Josie got to kick each other all night in their bed. So Josie, Todd and I headed home late the second day, instead of spending another night. Which meant Joe got a day of freedom in the mountains. It was good for him.

My favorite part of camping was 4-wheeling with Josie. She was hilarious to ride with.

All she wanted out of the camping trip was to see a wolf so she was howling everywhere we went.

Joe of course brought his mountain bike, but since he couldn't get anyone else to ride with him, Josie and I followed him on the 4-wheeler. Todd was asleep with Grandma back at camp.

It's absolutely beautiful! We camped on the right side of the river, just about where the leaning tree is.

The boys of course did some fishing. Rem actually gave Joe a pole for his birthday.

And on one of the fishing trips Todd and I went along. Walking the river was wonderful!

Introducing Todd King Hawkes

Todd was due the 10th of July but he had everyone wondering if he would be a fourth of July baby like his Mom and sister. We checked into the hospital at 7pm on the 4th but Todd really wanted a day all his own, so he waited until 1:30am on the 5th. He weighed 7lbs 4 oz and was 19in long.

We really love Todd, especially Josie. Everyday she has her moments of loving and holding him. She tells him all the things she wants to teach him like how to talk and ride a bike. She also loves to tell him stories about Josie and Todd and their adventures. he has fit right into our little family perfectly.

4th of July

We did almost all of our Independence Day and Birthday celebrating early.

But we did save Josie one present to give her on her actual birthday and she was so excited about it.

She couldn't wait so we all went out for a while. This was just hours before Joe and I headed to the hospital!

I also got a few presents that day from Joe, a ruby necklace, racketball equipment and of course baby Todd!

Birthday Splash

On June 26th we celebrated Josie, Todd, and my birthdays.

Josie turned 3 and I turned 25 on the 4th of July.

Todd made his appearance July 5th.

We had a big family and neighborhood party that afternoon. We filled up the kiddie pools, put out slip n' slides and sprinklers, and of course splashed in the creek. It was so much fun!

Then in the evening family was invited for a BBQ and cake and ice cream. Josie and I felt so special. (I'm sure Todd did too!)

Key Largo!

It's been five years since Joe and I got married so we decided to take a trip just the two of us. (I guess Todd went along too, I was 7 1/2 months along)

We flew to Miami and spent our first night at South Beach. Besides the AMAZING dinner we had on the boardwalk, we were not impressed with SOBE at all.

Next day we headed to Key Largo where we spent the majority of our trip.

One day we drove south through the Keys all the way to Key West.

Our very favorite part of the trip was on that drive we stopped and spent the afternoon at Bahia Honda State park. It was a beautiful beach! We snorkeled off the shore, relaxed, and got chased by a crab who really wanted to pinch us!

Joe can't play in the sand without building something, and since we were in florida a crocodile seemed the perfect thing.

Ah, I could go back to that beach any day. It was perfect!

My next favorite part of our trip was snorkeling in the reefs.

This is a pic of the catamaran that took us out on the water. We went to two different reefs and spent an hour at each, which was the perfect amount of time. We ended that adventure exhausted and sea sick :(

On our last day in Florida before we flew home we stopped and did a nature walk in the Everglades, the Anhinga Trail. It was full of crocodiles and alligators! It was way cool to see so many of them.

Well the remodel continues but we are getting close to the end! Josie and I had a good time playing in our new tub before Joe and my dad installed it. The bathroom has been the biggest headache of this whole project, so getting a tub in, is a BIG deal!

Don't you love the gray and pink tile? Unfortunately it covers almost the entire bathroom so we decided to let it stay. We took the original tub out because the side had been cut down to a step so the older woman who used to live here could get in and out safely. Josie loved it, but I was not going to try bathing her in it so it had to go. Turns out there was a cast iron tub with an acrylic liner surrounding (basically two tubs one inside the other). The liner took a few days to pry out, and to remove the cast iron I spent a week chipping at the tile that lined so we could get it loose and then out came the sawzall! We took it out in pieces. I left putting the new tub in up to the men and they did a great job!

My mom misses Josie so much she came down two days in a row and for no reason other than to see us! We loved it. The first time she brought my sis Robin, and this time she brought my sister Kate and my neice Sarah.We all just wanted to be outside enjoying one of the last days of sunshine for the year. So we ate more grapes, fished, and I even made them go on a walk which led directly to Baskin Robbins, hehe.Me and the princess

Baby Sarah was born on Joe's birthday August 11th, so she's about 2 1/2 months. She is precious.Josie is a true Curtis girl! She loves her ice cream! (and everyone elses)

Halloween Quack Quack

We were too busy this year to even think about halloween. So, Josie got to be a duck cause Grandma Elaine gave her the outfit, and it was totally easy. She didn't want to wear it until she realized that being a duck means you get candy, now she wants to wear the duck all the time!

We had a simple Halloween, went to the ward dinner and trunk-or-treat then went to my Curtis Grandparents to Trick-or-treat and ended up staying for hours playing Pinnochle. It was very fun! We love being so close to them.

Excuses, Excuses

So I realize its been over a year since I've posted, but I promise I'll start doing it more often. (Joe and I finally broke down and decided to pay for the internet!) Basically here is what's happened since last July, at least as far as I can remember...

August 2009 - Joe turned 25!
December - spent Christmas juggling both families, and had a great holiday season
May 2010 - Joe graduated with his Masters in Engineering, WAHOO
June - We went to San Diego with my brother Rem and his family.
July - I turned 24 & Josie turned 2!
Joe started his new Job in Midvale, so we started renting an apartment in West Jordan while we house hunted.
Had a little Hawkes family vacation up Deer Valley for a weekend. The boys biked and the girls shopped!
August - Joe turned 26.
September - We signed the next 30 years away on a home that we LOVE!
October - Living in the basement of our home while we remodel the upstairs. When we finish that (hopefully in about 2-3 weeks) we will move up and rent the basement out.

I know there's alot more and I'll add as i think of things. Basically we are doing great. Joe likes his job, and Josie and I really enjoy living in Bountiful. We've made some friends and have kept busy. We walk to the library a couple times a week for storytime, and every Friday the mom's in the ward have a park day. We even get to play pinnochle with Grandma & Grandpa Curtis every once in a while. I've been doing lots of photos and graphics, which fills in my spare time - Josie helps with that too. Her favorite thing to do lately is fish in our backward, and sing Hi-Ho as she carries tools around helping me on the house. We are very blessed, and only wish we had more visitors. So whoever you are stop by and see us! We even offer free lodging and rides to the airport!

Birthdays for All

Our birthdays this year were fun. After all the Independance Day celebrations we had a little birthday party at my parents. Josie loved her cake and she got way to many presents! Her favorite was the 6 pairs of princess shoes from Grandma Leslie! She didn't hardly even care about the kitchen I'd spent so much time picking out. Oh well, sometimes we forget that kids are happy with just the little things. Plus she always gets so much from family so for Christmas I'm not getting her anything! For Joe's birthday his family came down for dinner one evening which made Joe so happy. It really was all he wanted. Joe started work in Midvale July 15th so we are living in an apartment in West Jordan while we house hunt. It's a long drive for family, and Joe really appreciated them all coming. We went to Big 5 for burgers and then played at a park that Joe and I enjoy, before the family headed home. Joe's cake wasn't as pretty as Josie's until you got the candles lit!

Summer Parties

July 8th was Kayla's 12th birthday (Joe's little sister). We had a great time being with family.

Josie just couldn't resist hugging Lucas, Joe's cousin. She gave him over 20 hugs throughout the evening. He wasn't big on them.

Independence & Birthdays!

We had a great 4th of July weekend with lots of family, fireworks, and birthday cakes.

On the 3rd my brother Rem and his family came and stayed the night with us, as well as my sisters Robin and Kate. That night we watched the Logan fireworks at one of Joe's family parties. Josie loved the fireworks, her cousin Isabel did not. This is Josie clapping for them with Joe's Parents. Josie's first fireworks show. She would say "wow" and clap then turn and give a huge hug and then do it all over again. It was adorable.
And the next morning it was Josie's 1st birthday, and my 23rd. So we had a nice breakfast. (Kate is hiding in the back, and Joe is taking the pic)By the way for those of you who don't know, we are housesitting for one of my friends this summer in Logan. Behind our backyard we have lots of baseball diamonds so we had a rousing game of baseball in the afternoon with family and friends. Joe's mom is in the back, tanning while playing the outfield. And later that evening we had a birthday party at Joe's parents. It was great. We had lots of food, then we opened gifts.

Josie and I got sunglasses, jewelry, books, toys, and many other gifts, including a Disney Princess mobile for Josie. She loves it. We also just played around. Josie and Isabel both love to swing, especially with Grandma Leslie. And my sister-in-law Lea helped me make Josie's very own birthday cake. Unfortunately Josie was only interested in taking little pinches of the frosting. So she ended up sharing.

It was a great birthday for both of us and a great Independence Day.

Our Trip to Michigan

We went to Michigan to visit Logan and Ann-Marie. On the way we spent a night at Grandma and Grandpa Curtis'. That was fun, Josie loved thier dog, Fritz.

The flight went suprisingly well. Josie loved the airports. We had to connect in Denver, but Josie didn't care.

My nephews were so fun to be with. Logan had just built them new bunkbeds and they loved them.

Logan showed us around the University of Michigan. It's Huge! and he also showed us around his dental school.

We even made a mold of Josies foot with the dentist stuff.

Levi loved Uncle Joe. (He calls me Joe's mom) They wrestled all the time.

We spent lots of time just hanging out, and of course playing the Wii

Logan and Ann-Marie took us to one of thier favorite Chinese restaurants, and thier favorite place for dessert in downtown Ann Arbor. While walking around we ran into a guy playing guitar and singing on the street. After talking to him we found out he was a performer and he was there playing so he could relax before a show. We bought a cd and he signed it "Josie, best wishes princess" it was great.

One day we took the kids to the Hands On Children's Museum. That was fun, I could've spent all day there.

We had a great time and miss them all so much. We love you guys!

Hiking the Crimson Trail

For family night last night we went hiking with Joe's family. The Crimson Trail is up Logan Canyon and it's about a 5 mile hike. This was Josie's longest hike so far and she was so content, she never fussed once.
The trail goes along the "China Wall" and the white specks on the far side are some of the people we were hiking with.

It was a beautiful day, but on our way back we got caught in a rainstorm. We were drenched. Luckily though we were able to keep Josie dry.

VIVA LAS VEGAS

For spring break we went to Vegas. It was wonderful. While Cache Valley got two feet of snow, we were playing outside in 75 degree sunshine. We stayed in a town called Overton, Joe's aunt and uncle live there. It's probably an hour from Vegas. So most of the time we hung around Overton, but we did spend one long day in Vegas.

One of the first days there we went hiking up the "Wash" basically a flash flood canyon in Overton's backyard. It's beautiful though, with lots of fun little hiking spots.

And since it's the desert, when the sun goes down it gets cold. So we wrapped Josie in Joe's jacket and she looked so cute.

The landscape there is sooo beautiful, complete opposite of what Joe and I are used to, but we love it.

So, our day in Vegas. What didn't we do? Of course we went to Circus Circus and watched some of the performances.

And you can't miss the Bellagio. It's as magnificent as ever. I could spend a whole day watching the water shows there.

Inside the Bellagio, they have this beautiful garden, I've never smelled anything so good.

We also went to the aquarium at Mandalay Bay, probably not quite worth the price we paid, but it was cool to see. It's main feature is the Shark Reef and it's terrifying. The shark in this picture is about 12 feet long. You can view the habitat from a glass tunnel and more than one shark came all the way to the glass hoping to eat Josie. She loved it, I did not.

This is who we spent spring break with. Josh is Joe's cousin, it's his family we stayed with, and Jill is a long time friend. The two are engaged and we're all way excited for them.

At the Flamingo Hotel they have a little outdoor animal park that we liked.

We walked the strip more than once sp Joe and I could hardly walk the next day.

The Lions at MGM grand were one of our favorite things to see. They were so lively, it was fun to watch them play.

Josie is learning to walk really well. She can't do it on her own yet, but she'll run if you hold her hands. And she can pull herself up and stand too.

The morning we went to Vegas Joe's uncle took us to the Valley of Fire National Park.

And another day Josh took us up on top of the Mesa, which is Overton's front yard.

Since Josie is still hungry every two hours, our 8 hour drive quickly became much more than that. So Joe and I made sure to enjoy the ride. We made alot of fun stops on the way. Before coming home, we stopped at Cove Fort, by Fillmore. It was founded by Gordon B. Hinckley's Grandfather as a haven for travelling pioneers.

And, Josie managed to find the snacks on the way home.

Draper Temple Open House

Josie and I took a friend to the Draper Temple Open House on Friday February 27. It was fun but carrying Josie for hours wasn't. We should of had a stroller but we weren't sure they were allowed, so my arms are still sore. (I know I'm weak, she only weighs 15 pounds.)

Josie was the entertainment for over 50 people. Everyone loved her, even those who didn't speak english wanted to tell me how much they liked her. She crawled and walked to everyone saying hi. Random people even took pictures of us. Wierd.

Christmas Tree Hunting

Every year we go to Idaho and cut down a tree. This year was Josie's first and she didn't like it very much, but we still had fun. We went the day after Thanksgiving with Joe's family.

About Time

Josie is 4 months, I'm still younger than Joe, and Joe is still older than me. We still live in a trailer, our broken truck is still in the front lawn, and our puppies haven't run off yet. Joe is still in school, I'm still working, and Josie is still a Peanut. Joe and I are both still primary teachers, Josie still hates Relief Society, and Grandma Leslie still tries to give my child things she's not supposed to when I'm not looking.

So you see, not much has changed.
Therefore I don't feel too bad that it took me this long to get a post for our fam, you haven't missed much.

Star Wars Halloween

Joe's family does a huge halloween party every year. This year the theme was Star Wars. So joe was the emperor, I was George Lucas the director, and Josie was Yoda. Don't we look good!

Moab

In October Joe and I decided to go to Moab to try and make up for all the fun summer activites we missed with me being pregnant and then having Josie. So we went down for a few days with Rem, Lea, and Isabel.

We got there a day ahead of the others and went hiking in Arches National Park. Josie's first hike ever!

While the boys biked the girls went shopping. Only once did I run the stroller into a shelf and ALMOST knock over probably $100,000 worth of pottery. It was terrifying!
